Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer

It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang

In the teaser shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys seem to view it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a carnival and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have returned with him. And what about Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

It is hoped she is still the key figure among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
